Communal Food Growing Project
The Lossie Growers
The Lossie Growers are part of a project from Lossiemouth Community Development Trust to support food growing in Lossie.
The Lossie Growers welcome anyone keen on growing and using fruit, vegetables and other edible plants. The goal is to create community growing space in Lossiemouth where everyone is welcome to come and enjoy the fruits of their joint labours.
We host potting sessions, talks, trips to other gardens and simply connect people together who love to talk about growing food. We have complete beginners and semi-professionals, everyone is very friendly and you’re welcome to ask as many questions as you like from your fellow growers.
There are three main projects on the go at the moment –
Herb planters in James Square
The planters are in place, and the next step will be to pot them up. There will be a launch on the weekend of Jun 6th and 7th with some fun activities to learn about herbs.
North of Scotland Garden Show Pallet Challenge
We have entered a display for the garden show. It involves lettuce and snails! More will be revealed in due course. The show is on Friday 12th and Saturday 13th of June.
Community allotment for Lossiemouth
We’re talking to the council about a small area suitable for community growing space.
Traditional allotments benefit only the few households that can get a space, but a communal garden is open for everyone to come together and pitch in, all ages, all backgrounds.
We have seen brilliant examples at Aberlour and Portgordon, there are many others in Moray.
If you’d prefer a traditional allotment, there is another group that are hoping to get allotments in Lossie, there is also The Patch at Shempston.
