The New Bridge

The New Bridge

Having successfully campaigned to secure funding for the bridge, the process of planning and construction is now underway. Responsibility for this phase rests with The Moray Council and the contractors, Beaver Bridges. The Trust will however endeavour to document and share the process through our dedicated Facebook channel to support community awareness and engagement. This channel is run in partnership with the Lossiemouth Business Association and Community Council.

As the most cost-effective option, the new bridge will be built from the esplanade. This marks a return to the original crossing position of 1908.

The Numbers are in:
We have been taking the estimated numbers of people crossing the Bridge for the last year. The measuring device can be fickle, and the results are calculated using a number of assumptions. The highlights from the data estimates over 400,000 crossings of the bridge in the last year, an average of 1000+ a day.
The data hints that unsurprisingly the footfall depends primarily on weather and holiday periods.
The bottom line is that the Bridge has been very popular and is achieving its aim of providing access for everyone, and their dogs, to the East Beach.

The new bridge is great for the town, but do these figures show an increase compared to those for the old bridge?

It may not be Stonehenge but we have an equally impressive summer solstice…… the wonders of nature capture this sunrise well to the North, out of the view of the webcam. Let’s enjoy the summer ahead as in mid winter the sunrise will be over the old bridge…. ... See MoreSee Less
